Our Eventful Family Vacation
July 29, 2009
It had been a coupleyears since our family has taken a holiday, especially due to keeping our belts tight like so many others have done due to the economy. My only nephew asked his fiance to marry him and that’s’s all it took! Found out the date of the wedding, my husband and I both had vacation time coming from work so we made a decision to go to the wedding and make it a vacation as well. So when it came time we packed out bags, loaded everything up and got on the road.
This was no small trip. It is almost 1200 miles back to my home town in Illinois so there would be a lot of hours spent on the road. Unfortunately not all of our issues were left back at home. After several hours of sitting the 1st day I had started feeling some lower abdominal discomfort. To be completely honest I believed it was a mix of nerves, excitement and maybe sitting for too long. But by the end of our first day my pain had become more intense. When we finally stopped for the night I attempted to unwind and stretch out some, wishing that it might get better, but there wasn’t any change. It got so bad I though we would have to go to a nearest ER. I decided to try and get a good nights rest and make the choice in the morning. Before I went to bed I called my mother to tell her how far we had made it and what was going on. After describing the symptoms I was having and she told me she had the same symptoms the time she was having issues with ovarian cysts. She told me about some of the different treatment of ovarian cysts and how this one natural cure worked best for her. So I decided to go to the emergency room that night, simply to ensure what was happening.
I’m sure each and every one of you have experienced visiting the trauma room at one time during your life or another. Well, the one we visited was exceptionally packed. Let me tell you, pain or no agony, sitting in a room full of sick and hurt folks was not a excellent environment. The mix of all these elements really irritated my anxiety. As time rolled by with people coming out and in constantly, waiting to be called while experiencing a great deal of pain it was ultimately enough and I began having a panic attack. All I would have liked to do was leave there, discomfort or no pain. I have to confess, if it was not for the support my husband gave me, in addition to the skills I learned about overcoming panic attacks I truly think I would have left. 8 hours later I walked out feeling a little better as far as the discomfort. The anxiety and panic had gotten better and the ultrasound confirmed I had an ovarian cyst. There was no cause for concern though I recieved a prescription for discomfort if required, some guidelines on things to avoid and told to check in with my family doctor when we got back home.
We made it up to Chicago and over the following days the discomfort subsided. I continued experiencing a little anxiety, but it was more anticipation about what precisely was happening. Actually one night we all got together and went out to eat at one of our favourite restaurants . This is the sort of food you simply can’t pick up down south where we live, so we all did quite a bit over eating that evening. My husband went a bit more overboard then he should have. I could tell because he mentioned that he needed one of his remedies for heartburn before we even got back to our room. We giggled at it, but the rest of the night he was in discomfort due to his acid reflux and heartburn.
In looking back it definitely was a wonderful time. The wedding went off without a glitch. It had been a evening to remember. Really the entire trip was one to recollect. Eventhough it started a little rocky but the time was wisely spent encircled by family and buddies that we had not visited with in several years. That had to be one of the best holidays the my family and I went on in a long time.
